Can a portable power station run a microwave?
Yes, if the station's rated AC output covers the microwave's input watts, which is usually 1,000 to 1,500 W. A 1,000 Wh class station gives about 35 to 60 minutes of total microwave time, enough for many short reheats.
The check is two numbers: rated AC output ≥ microwave input watts, then runtime = Wh x efficiency / microwave W. For an EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus and a 1,000 W microwave: 1,024 x 0.85 / 1,000 = 0.87 hours, about 52 minutes.
How many watts does a microwave use?
Between about 750 and 1,480 W in our sources, and more than the "cooking power" printed on the box. Virginia Cooperative Extension gives 750 to 1,100 W as the nameplate range for microwave ovens [22]. Champion's and Generac's generator charts both list a microwave at 1,000 W [20][21].
The Panasonic NN-SN686S is a good example of the gap: it is sold with 1,200 W of cooking power, and Panasonic lists its power consumption as 1,480 W [19]. The cooking power is what reaches the food; the input watts are what the station has to supply. Size the station by the input figure on the label or in the manual. Every source is on the microwave page.
What size power station do I need for a microwave?
One with a rated AC output at least equal to your microwave's input watts. Here is how stations in our data compare against a 1,000 W and a 1,480 W microwave, with the runtime for each:
| Station | Battery | Rated AC output | 1,000 W microwave | 1,480 W microwave |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DJI Power 500 | 512 Wh | 1,000 W [2] | 26 min | Won't run |
| Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 | 1,070 Wh | 1,500 W [4] | 55 min | 37 min |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus | 1,024 Wh | 1,800 W [1] | 52 min | 35 min |
| Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 | 1,024 Wh | 2,000 W [5] | 52 min | 35 min |
| BLUETTI AC180 | 1,152 Wh | 1,800 W [8] | 59 min | 40 min |
| Anker SOLIX S2000 | 2,010 Wh | 1,500 W [7] | 1.8 h | 1.2 h |
| Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 | 2,042 Wh | 2,200 W [10] | 1.7 h | 1.1 h |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max | 2,048 Wh | 2,400 W [11] | 1.7 h | 1.1 h |
| Anker SOLIX F3800 | 3,840 Wh | 6,000 W [12] | 3.2 h | 2.2 h |
Most use our default 0.85 efficiency because the makers don't publish one. The AC180 uses 0.85 from BLUETTI's manual [9] and the S2000 uses 0.9, the figure in Anker's own runtime formula. Longer times are rounded down, like the calculator. (How we got these numbers.)
Stations rated under 1,000 W can't run any of the microwaves in our sources at full power. That includes the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus (600 W) [13], the BLUETTI Elite 30 V2 (600 W) [15], the Goal Zero Yeti 700 (600 W) [16] and the DJI Power 1000 Mini (800 W) [17].
How long will a power station run a microwave?
About 35 minutes to an hour in total on a 1,000 Wh class station, and two to three hours on the largest ones in the table. Microwaves run in short bursts, so it helps to think in uses rather than hours.
Say you reheat a meal for 3 minutes on the 1,480 W Panasonic. That uses 1,480 x 3 / 60 = 74 Wh at the outlet. A DELTA 3 Plus has about 870 Wh at the outlet (1,024 x 0.85), so a full battery covers about 11 of those reheats, if nothing else is plugged in.
Does a microwave need extra surge capacity?
None of our four sources lists a starting figure for a microwave, so we don't give one. What we can say is that a station whose rated output sits right at your microwave's input watts, like the DJI Power 500 with a 1,000 W microwave, has no margin. A rating comfortably above the label figure is the safer choice.
Can boost mode run a microwave on a small station?
Don't count on it. Boost modes lower the voltage so heating loads run at reduced power. EcoFlow lists X-Boost on the RIVER 3 Plus for heating devices up to 1,200 W [13], and BLUETTI lists Power Lifting Mode on the Elite 30 V2 for pure resistive loads up to 1,500 W [15]. A microwave is neither a simple heater nor a pure resistive load. We list boost modes but never count them when we say whether a station runs something.
Can I run a microwave and a fridge at the same time?
Only on a large station, because the watts add up. A 1,480 W microwave plus a fridge at 700 running watts [21] is 2,180 W running. If the fridge compressor starts while the microwave is on, the peak is the total running watts plus the fridge's starting jump: Generac's chart puts a fridge at 2,900 W starting, a jump of 2,200 W, for a peak of about 4,380 W.
The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max (2,400 W rated, 4,800 W surge) [11] covers that. The DELTA 3 Plus (1,800 W rated) [1] does not; run the microwave while the fridge is idle, or one at a time. Add both in the calculator to check your own station.
How do I check my own microwave?
Read the label on the back or inside the door for input watts or amps, not the cooking power. If it lists only amps, multiply the amps by 120 V to get watts. Then:
- Make sure the station's rated AC output is higher than that figure.
- Divide the station's Wh x 0.85 by that figure for the total runtime in hours.
Compare every station's output and battery on the stations page, and see the sourced watts for other kitchen loads on the appliances page.

Quick answers
Can a portable power station run a microwave?
Yes, if the station's rated AC output is at least the microwave's input watts. Our sources put microwaves at 750 to 1,480 W. A station rated for 1,500 W or more covers all of them.
What size power station do I need for a 1,000 watt microwave?
Check the label for input watts, not cooking power. A Panasonic microwave sold as 1,200 W of cooking power draws 1,480 W. For a microwave that draws 1,000 W, you need at least 1,000 W of rated output; for 1,480 W, at least 1,500 W.
How long will a power station run a microwave?
A 1,024 Wh station runs a 1,000 W microwave about 52 minutes in total (1,024 x 0.85 / 1,000), or a 1,480 W microwave about 35 minutes. Microwaves run in short bursts, so that is a lot of reheats.
Can a 1000 watt power station run a microwave?
Only a small one. A 1,000 W rated station such as the DJI Power 500 can run a microwave that draws up to 1,000 W, with no headroom. Many full-size microwaves draw more, like the 1,480 W Panasonic in our sources.
Can I run a microwave and a fridge at the same time on a power station?
Only on a large one. A 1,480 W microwave plus a 700 W fridge is 2,180 W running, and when the fridge starts the peak can reach about 4,380 W using Generac's figures. A station rated for 2,400 W with a 4,800 W surge, like the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max, covers that.
